I often feature photographs that I’ve created, like the one above, on posts here at the Forest Rat blog. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could get your hands on a print or two and hang them on your walls at home? Well now you can.
I decided to try my hand at selling my prints online so I’ve opened the Forest Rat Studio – a shop on Etsy.
Etsy has been around for a while so you’ve probably heard of it. If you haven’t, here’s a little introduction. The about page on their web site says,
“Etsy is the global marketplace for unique and creative goods. It’s home to a universe of special, extraordinary items, from unique handcrafted pieces to vintage treasures.”
Basically it’s a web site where artists can offer their works for sale. I create a ‘shop’, upload photos of my prints, write a description, and give ’em a price. You come along, see something you like, and purchase it through Etsy’s secure payment system. I ship it out to you. No fuss no muss.
This way you get the convenience of hassle free online shopping and I don’t have to figure out how to build and maintain a web site complete with shopping carts and what not. As they say, it’s win-win.
Currently at my shop I’m featuring signed prints that I’ve already printed and matted that have been hanging around my studio for a while. I’d rather have them in someone’s home being enjoyed rather than sitting in a pile under my work table so I’m letting them go cheap.
Since they’re already matted you can just flop them in a frame from the local art store and voila! a beautiful framed print for your home or office.
At the time I’m writing this I’m just getting started so there are only a few prints in my shop, but I’ll be adding more as soon as I can. Check back often to see what’s new.
P.S. I’ve also opened an online shop at Fine Art America. See a wider selection of my work available in a print on demand format. Since they’re POD they aren’t signed, but you can get them framed or unframed and even on coffee mugs and cell phone covers. More about that in my next post.
